Keďže si kresťan, oslavuješ dvoje narodeniny: oslavuješ nielen výročie svojho fyzického narodenia, ale aj výročie svojho duchovného narodenia.

V deň svojho fyzického narodenia si sa narodil do života na tejto zemi. V deň svojho duchovného narodenia si sa krstom narodil do večného života s Bohom.

V deň tvojho krstu ťa priniesli ku krstiteľnici. Keďže Boh je Svätá Trojica, tri razy ťa ponorili do vody, a to mene Otca i Syna i Svätého Ducha.

Keď si bol ponorený, chvíľu si bol akoby mŕtvy. Ponorenie je symbol. Symbol nám hovorí o tom, čo sa deje, ale nevidíme to fyzickými očami. Ponorením si zomrel, aby si sa ihneď narodil z vody a z Ducha. Krst je symbolom smrti a znovuzrodenia.

Čo sa udialo potom?

Obliekli ťa do bieleho rúcha – krstnej košieľky. Jej biela farba vyjadruje, že si sa stal novým a čistým človekom. Duchovný otec sa modlil, aby si po celý svoj život zostal duchovne čistým a nepoškvrneným človekom.

Biele rúcho je symbolom toho, že si si obliekol Ježiša Krista. Obliecť si Ježiša Krista znamená, že sa snažíme žiť presne tak, ako nás to on učil.

Potom duchovný otec odovzdal zažatú sviecu tvojim krstným rodičom do pravej ruky a viedol ich aj s tebou v procesii okolo krstiteľnice. Všetci prítomní spievali: „Ktorí ste v Krista pokrstení, Krista ste si obliekli. Aleluja.“

Krstom si sa znovu narodil, a to z vody a Ducha. Voda, biele rúcho a svieca sú znakmi nového života.

Krstom si sa stal súčasťou Božej rodiny – Cirkvi. Stal si sa učeníkom a nasledovníkom Ježiša Krista. Teraz si kresťan. Nazývaš sa kresťan, pretože vierou a krstom si sa zjednotil s Kristom.

Následne si – ako kedysi dávno učeníci – dostal dar Svätého Ducha. Ježiš prikázal učeníkom, aby očakávali Svätého Ducha. Jedného dňa –  po Ježišovom návrate k Otcovi do neba – Svätý Duch zostúpil na učeníkov.
